Room calibration by Acoustic Vision

A dictionary definition of fatigue may say "an extreme loss of energy, arising from
excessive physical, and, or, mental activity inducing tiredness or weariness." The reason for physical
fatigue is self evident, but the loss of mental energy is altogether more insidious. After all; who
amongst us has never said, or more likely yelled in desperation, "stop that noise, it's giving me a
headache, or it's driving me mad!"
Listener fatigue results from being subjected to a continuous barrage of sounds of varying frequency
and volume. Simply put, the brain loses the ability to focus and concentrate properly as it becomes
more and more overloaded by the cacophony of sound waves it receives. Imagine trying to make sense of
10 simultaneous announcements at a main line railway station!
In a poor quality acoustical environment, noise levels are exacerbated to the point where the listener
may experience physiological changes which are sometimes evident by an agitated state of being.
Only by understanding that excessive noise is a dangerous form of pollution and, that the effects of
noise fatigue are real, can we start taking steps towards a calmer and healthier future. Just because
you don't live or work in a railway station doesn't mean that the subtle effects of listener fatigue
won't affect you!
Did you know? According to the World Health Organisation; noise pollution is second only to ear infection
as the main cause of hearing loss and total deafness. What's more, an increasing number of experts believe
that exposure to excessive or persistent noise is damaging to the body's immune system effecting productivity
and quality of life.
Commercial Applications
One noticeable thing in commercial spaces is that they often suffer from uneven sound distribution throughout.
Sometimes the sound is loud and echoes in one part of the building, whilst being unnecessarily flat and dull
in another. Whether the sound is piped music, public address or normal speech patterns, poor sound transmission
can and does adversely effect communication, function, and productivity.
By ensuring that work spaces are properly assessed, the appropriate acoustic treatment using RPG Diffusors
and aesthetically pleasing absorbent AcousticART® Panels can be identified, to transform your environment and
create maximum comfort and stimulate efficiency. We're here to help; so why not give us a call.
Residential Applications
As we've said elsewhere on this site, you wouldn't expect to drive a Porsche to best effect across a ploughed
field. By the same logic, if you want to have the best seat in the house when it comes to listening to your
home theatre/audio equipment, then a computer calibration of your equipment and the listening space is vital.
A computer calculated assessment of the listening space will identify where and what Panels and Diffusers are
necessary to optimise your listening experience. In addition, the technology also assists in tuning the audio
hardware relative to the room layout, thus producing the optimum listening zone.
Acoustic Vision is the only company in Australia to have a qualified Level II HAA calibrator. So if you want
it done right, then contact us to discuss your situation.
