Attic Ladders as seen on Better Homes & Gardens

The Better Homes & Gardens team show you how to create more storage in your home by installing an attic ladder to utilise your roof space. Houses with pitched roofs often have a huge ceiling area that can be used for lightweight storage. For use as a storage space, the requirements for alterations and reinforcements are not as extensive as they would be if you were converting the space to habitable rooms.

The easiest roof spaces to use are those framed in the traditional way with rafters, ceiling joists, purlins and struts.

More modern truss roofs with the smaller timbers and W-shaped webs, intrude into the useable space more and cannot be altered in any way without the advice of a structural engineer.

For the ultimate in roof storage have the area professionally fitted out, complete with attic ladder, flooring, side panelling, lighting and lining with White-Cell insulation. Check out the video on the Better Homes & Gardens website;
