F34 truss designs by Design Quintessence

Sydney's Avant-Garde Events, confirmed their reputation as one of the country's most
creative event management companies when they hosted the Pricewaterhouse Coopers Christmas Party in
one hall of the Sydney Exhibition & Convention Centre. Warren Faulkner and Richard Bernardo were
inspired by Studio 54 nightclub in New York City. Studio 54 became the world's most notorious nightclub
when it opened in 1977 before finally closing in 1986. Avant-Garde wanted to take these revellers back
in time 25 years and recreate the experience that was Studio 54.
Warren and Richard came to Design Quintessence in August for some input into what could be achieved in
terms of truss design on a budget for the party. They took some design concepts that we came up with,
developed them further and effectively transformed a large shed into a spectacular nightclub room. The
centrepiece of the truss design was a unique 7m wide F34 Truss sphere suspended from the centre of the
room (dwarfing a 2.1mØ mirror ball suspended inside). An F34 Truss four-pointed star highlighted with LED
strips extended to the outer corners of the space.
The production was a collaborative effort with the truss provided by Chameleon Touring Systems and Coastal
Lighting Productions excluding the sphere supplied by DQ. The show was installed and expertly lit by
Chameleon and the truss was rigged by Pollard Productions.
