The fall in dwelling approvals in May shows that last year's rate hikes continue to dampen housing activity, according to Master Builders Australia, the peak body for the building and construction industry.
Mr Peter Jones, MBA's Chief Economist, said “Any recovery in housing activity is likely to be constrained in the short term as the fallout from last year's rate rises continues to impact negatively, particularly on the apartment sector.”
