HIA Welcomes Recommendations of Senate Report on Warranty
HIA, Australia’s largest building industry association has welcomed the recommendations contained within the majority report of the Senate Committee on Economics into Australia’s Mandatory Last Resort Home Warranty Insurance scheme.
Home Lending Still Falling
HIA, Australia’s largest building industry association, said that a further fall in home lending in September, the eighth consecutive decline, reinforced the importance of lower interest rates and fiscal stimulus in creating a floor under the residential sector in late 2008/early 2009.
Glimmer of hope for builders as loans for new houses ticks up
Loans for ‘new’ dwellings moved higher in September in contrast to a further
decline in loans for the purchase of established dwellings, according to peak
building and construction industry organisation Master Builders Australia.
Local Councils Can Help Fight Off Recession
Master Builders Australia, the peak body for the building and construction
industry, has called on local councils to play their role in recession proofing
the Australian economy at the inaugural Australian Council of Local Government
meeting scheduled for Tuesday 18 November 2008.
Vital Planning Reform Update Welcomed
The Housing Industry Association today accepted the response from the acting Minister for Planning and Workplace Relations, Graeme Sturges saying that the progress to date is positive and that regional planning timelines for 2009-10 are reasonable.
Master Builders - The Winners
Builders from across Australia were presented with prestigious Awards at Master Builders’ 2008 National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards in the Great Hall, Parliament House, Canberra on 14 November.
Master Builders Chief Executive, Mr Wilhelm Harnisch, congratulated the winners saying that they “demonstrated that they are the best of the best by delivering the highest quality of work in their projects, thereby setting a standard for the rest of industry to aspire to.”

Master Builders Australia announced the 2008 winner of the National Apprentice
of the Year Award at its National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards
at Parliament House in Canberra on Friday 14 November. The Award was proudly
sponsored by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace
Relations/Australian Apprenticeships.
