Energy Efficient Hydronic Central Heating from Hunt Heating

Save money on your heating bills

The initial cost to install a hydronic central heating system is between 2-3 times more than a ducted heating system. However, this cost can quickly be recovered as the running costs are lower with a hydronic heating system, due to the use of high efficiency boilers run on natural gas. The new condensing range of boilers such as the Murelle Green Planet offer even greater efficiency up to 92.4% (80 degrees celsius) and 96.3% (50 degrees celsius).

Underfloor heating uses much lower temperatures (45-48 degrees celsius) making it one of the most efficient forms of hydronic heating. Hydronic underfloor (or slab heating as it can be referred to) is a much more environmentally friendly alternative to electric underfloor heating, with the bonus of much lower running costs.

The electrical componentry in a hydronic system is minimal, with wall hung boilers having electronic ignition on start-up and small economical pumps using very low amounts of electricity to operate.

Radiators are rated to industry standard according to the areas they are placed in eg: bedrooms 18 degrees, hallways 20, lounge 21 and bathrooms 23. This allows valuable energy savings by not heating up the whole house unnecessarily to one temperature, while still maintaining a uniform temperature throughout without draughts and hotspots. The ability to turn off radiators in rooms which are not in use and more sophisticated zoning systems can offer even great efficiencies.

On average a hydronic central heating system will cost around 20% less to operate than a ducted heating system in a house with 2.7m ceilings.
