Parchem Construction Products gives the Monash University a makeover

Savcor ART has recently undertaken concrete repairs and waterproofing of the facade of The Robert Menzies Building at Monash University, using a package of Parchem's concrete repair, waterproofing, architectural coatings, and sealant products.

The Robert Menzies Building serves as the Faculty of Arts for students of Monash University and was built in the 70s. Over the past 25 to 30 years the concrete facade has deteriorated due to weathering causing water entry to the building through cracks and leaking joints.

The university has a long term view of maintaining its assets and wanted a long-term durable repair and protection system. Where concrete had deteriorated resulting in cracking and spalling, repairs were undertaken using Fosroc Renderoc HB25, a low-shrinkage polymer modified repair mortar.

Construction Silicone, a state of the art sealant ideal for building facade work was colour matched to the existing sealant. Its non staining, tear resistant formulation makes it suitable for sealing moving or static joints in most building materials including precast insitu concrete, curtain walling and lightweight cladding, tilt-up slabs, brickwork, masonry block, marble and granite facades. It accommodates joint movement from plus 50 percent to minus 30 percent.

Parchem's Emer-Clad was also carefully colour matched to the existing facade and applied in two coats to form a decorative/protective elastomeric waterproofing membrane. The Emer-Clad system is flexible enough to cater for high degrees of thermal movement, thereby ensuring a watertight building under all climatic extremes.
