Environmentally safe buildings with Electronic Blueprint

Electronic Blueprint and ENVIROSPEC provide specifications, details and
training that ensure builders have access to the information necessary to construct safe
buildings. The recently published Report TS663 "estimate of vulnerability of new housing
when subject to tropical cyclone winds" by the Cyclone Testing Station at James Cook
University (Townsville) has included the following in its recommendations:
"...it is recommended that... manufacturers and retailers need to inform builders of
correct installation and usage practices via electronic or printed information sheets.
Certifiers need to ensure, via appropriate manufacturer product marking or documentation
(e.g. product design guides and installation sheets, etc) that building components and
construction details have been tested to show that they do meet their stated design
capacities."
The report covers a study into the vulnerability from cyclonic winds of contemporary
masonry block, slab-on-ground houses under construction in the Townsville region. The
report should be interpreted by persons fully aware of the assumptions and limitations,
and who are familiar with the statistical concepts discussed therein. It is recommended
that readers obtain and consider the report in full. Feedback is sought on the engineering
and building implications for houses subject to cyclones and extreme wind.
