The SOS Save our Shoalhaven house project intends to educate people on how they can make their own homes ecologically sustainable. Timbercrete business owner Max Zalakos started the idea to help people know what they can do to retro fit their existing homes or build homes that are sustainable. Timbercrete blocks were used to build the home and improve its insulation value and give it a greater thermal mass. Timbercrete blocks are made from waste material and use less energy to produce than normal bricks. They also absorb carbon gas and thus offset the carbon produced by thousands of cars each year. Local students also learned quite a bit about sustainable living by helping out with the project. |
