Murano Improves Acoustics in Multipurpose Venue

A new $2.15 million multipurpose facility recently opened in Cardinia Shire, east of Melbourne, provides a venue for a wide range of community activities, including school functions, an auditorium for special events, club meeting rooms, basketball, netball and other sporting events. The venue - the Bunyip Multipurpose Auditorium pictured here - was built by local construction company J.R. Pryor Pty. Ltd. for Cardinia Shire Council.

The builder chose Murano Acoustics™ perforated wood panels to minimize reverberation in the venue. These panels were perforated and supplied by Sontext Pty Ltd. They were painted in a range of primary colours on site, prior to fixing by the builder.

Sontext director, Mr. Gerald Hynes, said "The acoustics in multipurpose venues like this one require special attention to ensure sound quality doesn't become a problem. For example, the sound requirements for an exciting sporting event are very different from those expected by an audience when a school speech night or music event is taking place - yet activities like these may all be expected to happen in a venue like this one. By covering hard surfaces like walls or ceilings with sound absorbing acoustic treatments like Murano Acoustics Timber Panels, reflected sound - usually called reverberation or echo - can be reduced considerably."

The Murano Acoustics wood panels supplied on this project were 1200x1200mm in size, with 9mm holes at 16mm centres. 50mm thick acoustic insulation was installed behind the Murano panels to maximise sound absorption.
