Are Sexy Floors really sexy?
We could have named our business a lot of things but truthfully, it came from one of
our clients, who jokingly commented "this really is a sexy floor." When thinking of a
business name, we tossed a few ideas around and everything we came up with did not
communicate what we are trying to achieve. We had a product that allowed us to create,
it was new, exciting and the name needed to demonstrate this. It was a joke at the time
but it was one of those phrases that struck a chord, Sexy is exciting and appealing.
So straight from our clients' mouth, yes, our floors are sexy.
Why are your floors unique?
Epoxy has been around for years and was mainly used in back of house and industrial
areas. After years of research we have found a product that is so versatile that floors
can be transformed into a works of art. The creek bed design was a challenge that Kelvin
just could not pass up and it was his knowledge of how the product works that achieved
the final result. In our metallic range of aluminium, copper and bronze we use real
metallic, and we will create new designs such as our opal and pearl finish. The other
advantage of course is having creative talent, a vision and years of experience
applying the epoxy.
Your slogan 'the innovation is in the application' is catchy but what does it mean?
For years epoxy layers are taught to apply the epoxy in much the same way, and for some
floors, this is ok, but to have a designer floor you have to think outside the square.
Thinking outside of the square is also true of our application, it is the secret to our
success, and you only have to see the final result to see that we dare to be different.
How is winning 'The most innovative flooring product of 2007' so important to Sexy Floors?
Winning the award gives us recognition for our dedication, research and hard work. For
many years we have been trying to re-educate the public, on the fact that epoxy is not
what it used to be. It is now environmentally friendly, free of Volatile Organic
Compounds. We think it is very important to reduce emissions and help keep our workplace
and home, green and clean.
Who are the Sexy Floor Team?
Sexy Floors is a family run business, with Kelvin Shaw and his wife Robyn J. Cooper as
the owners and operators.
Kelvin Shaw is a man with artistic flair when it comes to using epoxy. He has a creative
edge and vision when designing and colour matching resin products. For over 25 years
Kelvin has worked with all forms of flooring, but he now prefers to concentrate on
seamless concrete coatings. His unique floor art is leading the way, with world first
designs and metallic colours.
Robyn J. Cooper has helped create this exciting business. With an extensive background
in Marketing and Administration, Robyn is committed to promoting the unique changes to
traditional concepts of epoxy floors. Robyn's entrepreneurial foresight has seen Sexy
Floors start as an idea, after appreciating Kelvin's talent, and developing it into a
successful business, which has just sold its first franchise.
Gail Russell is the Office Manager, an indispensable, 'Jill of all Trades'.
