Altair Powerlouvre window system by Breezway saluted by Australian Window Association

The Breezway Altair Powerlouvre Window System was recognised for excellence in design when it received the prestigious Australian Window Association Design Award for Most Innovative Window System on Saturday, 29 September.

Breezway's new automated window system enables the opening and closing of louvre's with a simple flick of a switch, perfect for hard to reach windows.

When announced at the AWA National Conference & Exhibition on Saturday, 29 September, Breezway joined a host of other innovative window and door companies recognised through the AWA Design Awards for their valuable contribution to the fenestration industry.

Martin Wilson, General Manager of Breezway, said, "The Altair Powerlouvre Window System is not only an innovative, well designed window system, but also a system that meets the needs of our customers. We set out to design an automated louvre window with improved aesthetics by doing away with external motors and connectors and that was also simple and easy to install and operate. We are extremely pleased that the Altair Powerlouvre Window has been recognised as achieving these aims."

Held at the Royal Pines Resort, Queensland, the AWA National Conference & Exhibition ran from 27 - 29 September, hosting over 300 fenestration delegates from around the country. Award winners were announced at the highly-anticipated AWA Annual Dinner on the final night of the conference.

Design features of the Altair Powerlouvre Window System:

  • The integrated low voltage motor which drives the window is concealed within the window frame, removing the need for external motors and connectors.
  • Delivered to building sites fully assembled and ready for installation.
  • Can be integrated within sophisticated building automation systems or controlled by a simple pair of wall switches.
  • Opens fully to allow greater control of ventilation.
  • Product performance is the same as the manual Altair Louvre, making specification easier.
  • Built-in overload system to prevent damage should fingers, or curtains be caught in a closing window.

Independent industry personnel with extensive expertise in the fenestration, technical and design areas comprised the judging panel ensuring a comprehensive and equitable evaluation process. Judges were Clive Solari, Design Institute of Australia; Tony McDonald, Building Products Innovation Council; Garry Kwok, HIA; Geoff Roberts, Roberts & Associates; and AWA life members Roland and Stephanie Clark and John Mannile.

Ian Frame, Executive Director of the AWA comments, "The AWA congratulates Breezway for its ground-breaking innovation. The increased popularity of this year's Awards is indicative of the exciting growth of new product designs, of which the Altair Powerlouvre Window System was a leader. Australian window manufacturers and suppliers like Breezway have responded cleverly to current consumer demand for simplicity, energy efficiency, sound reduction and improved security."
