Industrial Products - 456,
456R and 360 Flush Bolts
History
The Henderson range of 456 flush
bolts have over a number of years evolved and expanded
to keep pace with the growth of Weatherfold folding
door hardware and as advanced as the range is there
is still room for further improvement.
This technical bulletin details
stage 1 of a series of changes and introductions
that will make the range the most comprehensive
in the country.
The primary drivers of change that
has shaped the new range are a new lock design,
a smaller option for windows, improved corrosion
resistance, colour coordination with other door
hardware and price positioning.
Specification 456 (square top) and
456R (round top)
In bullet point form the new range
can claim the following:
- New lock design on all locking
models
- Stainless steel shoot bolt
- Radius stainless steel keeper
- Improved Corrosion resistance
to the Polished Look Brass finish.

New Lock
Although the jewellers
lock has served the lockable versions
well during the past three years it
has had its critics and on balance it
has been decided to change the design
in favour of a window style lock that
can be keyed alike across all window
hardware within a given property.

An essential feature of a locking
flush bolt used in folding door systems is the key
must not sustain or cause damage when the doors
are operated or folded at 90 degrees. This can be
achieved in a multitude of ways. The jewellers lock
option is one way, whereby the shoot bolt cannot
be retracted with the key and barrel in place or
a more simple approach is to make the key small
enough so that it does not protrude past the operating
knob. The new design uses the latter of the two
options mentioned.
The new lockable 456E, 456RE and
360E all share a common locking mechanism. A metal
die cast barrel, body and a neat new branded key,
centrally positioned that oozes quality and sports
the famous Henderson name.
New Finishes
If the previous finishes in Satin
Chrome, Polished Chrome and Polished Brass were
impressive. Take a close look at the new products,
satin chrome has moved aside to be replaced by Satin
Nickel. The new finish has taken out the blue tint
present in chrome and added a hint of yellow, making
it almost indistinguishable from natural satin stainless
steel. Likewise, the same changes apply to the high
polished finish with Polished Nickel replacing polished
Chrome.
Henderson RMD was the first to introduce
Titanium Gold as an option on Stainless steel when
Weatherfold Coastal was launched. Two years later
Titanium gold will appear for the first time on
the new brass bodied 456, 456R and 360 flush bolts.
Traditionally a lacquered finish is the more popular
finish on polished brass products due to costs but
it lacks long term corrosion resistance. The new
titanium gold plating provides the finish that can
truly be used on Coastal application.
Stainless Steel Keepers and Shoot
Bolts.
Changing the finishes to the body
also opened the way to the introduction of solid
stainless steel shoot bolts, knobs and keepers.
All the shoot bolts are now made from either satin
polished or titanium gold plated stainless steel.
The new keeper, now is also made from stainless
steel, features radius ends as standard to accommodate
modern machining practices.
Packaging
To protect the bolts each are now
individually packed in there own polystyrene lined
carton with vision window. The vision window provides
instant product recognition.
Specification 360 and 360E
Henderson 456 flush bolts have in
the past been used for many window applications
but it has been mentioned that it is oversized for
the stile it is fitted to. So by popular demand
the 360 non-locking and 360E locking join the range.
The smaller 360, available in round
top only, shares many design features and benefits
of its bigger brother but is sized at 110mm x 24mm
x 9mm. The new 360 is fitted to the sash by just
two screws that pass through the centre of the body
and shoot bolt. To aid installation of the 360 series
Henderson RMD are able to offer the new 'Router
360' cutter
