Similar to a steel 'I Beam' where the strength is in the flanges, the bar profile gives around 25% weight reduction while retaining strength. This design saves not only weight, but also material cost and galvanising cost. Savings are also made in the design of the supporting structure for the grate, as the product is so much lighter and stress is reduced.
