Crestron RoomView® Audio Visual Solutions from Hills SVL

UTS & BOND lead the way with smart managed systems

The University of Technology, Sydney and Bond University on the Gold Coast are leading the way with smart Crestron room solutions. Managed by Crestron RoomView®, the systems meet the broad requirements of both universities.

Reg Collins (Manager, UTS Audio Visual Services, IT Division) has been a long time supporter of Crestron solutions, with the high level of service provided and broad range of products available from one manufacturer ensuring a stable common and manageable platform across all systems.

UTS were the first University in our region to utilise the Crestron DVPHD HD Vision Processor for their larger more challenging spaces. The DVPHD with its inbuilt touch panel interface has allowed UTS to use large format LCD monitors as the user interface, with live previews and annotation of all sources including High Resolution Cameras.

The large format displays, either LCD panels or High Definition projectors are fed a true 1920 line signal at all times as the DVPHD beautifully scales all sources to true HD. Up to eight images of varying formats can be shown on a single screen if required.

By the end of this year, the UTS AV department will be managing systems in Broadway, Kuring-gai and Haymarket campuses totalling over 250 rooms.

Tim Coleman (Senior Technical Support Officer, Bond University) is a big fan of Crestron solutions with RoomView® ensuring all spaces are proactively managed. Bond University have been very busy setting up several new spaces this year with the modern Multimedia Learning Center offering students a very different place to collaborate and learn. The TPS4L and MPS100 products were used across all booth spaces, which incorporated large format LCD panels, PS3's, and of course, PC and video sources. The all in one MPS product allowed the booth cabinets to be designed with simple cable management, without the need for traditional equipment racks. The larger collaborative learning spaces also use the MPS but added the Crestron Flip Tops into the meeting tables for another tidy solution.

Bond University currently has 88 spaces managed by RoomView®, with the plan to implement RoomView® SE via Virtual Servers in the next 6-9 months. This will allow broader user access and flexible intelligent room remote control from almost anywhere. RoomView® manages all systems and makes them available for use from 7.30am, and will automatically shut them down at 9pm.

The high level interactive management of the rooms and their associated displays is allowing over 5000 hours lamp life from the projectors and provides detailed logs on how and when rooms are being used.
