Bathroomware Offering Eco Alternative from Minosa

The Minosa Ovo basin is made from 13% recycled Corian content.

Bathroom design and manufacturers Darren Genner and Simona Castagna founded Minosa because they saw an opportunity to design and manufacture European style high quality bathroomware locally. The team at Minosa are passionate about the environment and after researching materials and processes, have launched a range of basins made out of recycled Corian.

Minosa uses Corian® by DuPont™, Corian® is a solid surface material made up with acrylic resins and natural aluminium. Corian has been around since 1967 and is the world leader in solid surface material but had mostly been applied in kitchens. Darren and Simona knew it was perfectly suited to what they wanted to achieve in bathrooms as the products could be made locally and could also be made to order. This goes with the company ethos of only manufacturing what they need, meaning no unwanted or over stocked products.

Corian is 100% renewable which means it will last the test of time and also sit with the Minosa company ethos. Minosa not only offer a design made from low VOC materials, the are also actively recycling. Their washbasins can be repaired and reused if they are damaged or old.

Waterwise
Ecosense is a big part of the Minosa approach. Darren & Simona created the Puddle washbasin; this was a reaction to Sydney's growing water crisis and the introduction of water restrictions. Creating flat or shallow washbasins was never the real challenge; the challenge was to understand the way water responded to flat surfaces! Darren and Simona sought smart water saving technology to complement this new design practice for their new range of basins, not only to avoid splashback but also to highlight the excessive amount of water running through most people's taps.

The entire Minosa collection of washbasins have been designed to educate the market about water consumption, with the use of 4 litres per minute being promoted.

"In our opinion, 4 litres/minute is more than enough for people's daily washing and shaving," said Simona. "People don't need anywhere near as much water as they think."
