Corian solid surfacing from CASF Australia at Melbourne Central Food Lounge

Daniel Seyd of In Site has created a striking environment at Melbourne Central Food Lounge. The project was an interior renovation of an existing food court. The new design has created a lounge like feel that is more appealing to spend time in than a conventional food court.

The eatery is arranged as a series of loose clusters of furniture, contained by island units, which act as bench seating, bench tops and space dividers in one. The island units are a combination of Corian® in Savannah, veneer and upholstery, that combine with other finishes to give an eclectic feel to the eatery.

Corian® was used for this project because of it's "durability, aesthetic appearance, and warmth when touched compared to other materials," says Seyd "Corian® as a product also has a great combination of aesthetics & durability with the flexibility to mould, no open joins, or rout it into specific shapes or forms," Seyd adds.

Another focal point to this space is that it is unified aesthetically and physically by over 400 custom designed brass dish lights as a 'sea of lights'. Wireless internet, interactive AV and library tables add to the sense that patrons can relax and spend time in the space. In Site have created an original and contemporary food court space with inviting colours, textures and facilities. In Site was also awarded a Corian® Design Award for this project in 2006.
