Rockfaced Sandstone Blocks for Kerbs and Edging at Stone Directions

Rockfaced Sandstone Blocks

Product Description / Size
In our colonial past stonemason artisans would shape sandstone blocks with chisels and mallets using a technique called "rockfacing". This gave a rough, semi-formal appearance to the stone. If natural, hand-worked stone were still available today it would undoubtedly be very expensive as a garden edge/kerb product.
However, Stone Directions Rockfaced Sandstone Blocks are affordable, authentic replicas of hand-worked, sandstone blocks from a bygone era.

Product Features of Rockfaced Sandstone Blocks

  • The high strength concrete (60MPa) is more durable than natural stone.
  • More economical than comparable natural stone products.
  • Available in colours to match Stone Directions Helidon Pavers and Mocha Blend gives the best sandstone simulation.
  • Blocks can be cut on site with a 45° mitre for corners.
  • The 80mm thickness gives a chunky natural stone look.
  • There are two(2) different patterns which can be laid up either way giving four(4) different appearances.
  • The 260mm height allows a good depth of garden behind.

Installation:

  • Stones should be laid in a wet concrete bed about 100mm thick (thickness depends on application).
  • The stones should be placed about 50 - 60mm into the wet concrete.
  • Stones should be laid with a 10mm gap between them.
  • Pack wet concrete behind the stones to a depth of about 70mm from the top ensuring the concrete bonds to the back of the block.
  • Pack wet cement mortar into the joints between each block, smearing as little as possible onto the outside of the block.
  • Use a wet sponge to wipe the cement mortar from the outside of the blocks before it dries.

Colours:
Rockfaced Sandstone Blocks are available in all Stone Directions Helidon Paver Colours. Mocha Blend and Limestone are the colours most like sandstone.
The colours shown in the photo should be taken as indicative only. Colours as they appear can be affected by lighting, photography, computer monitors and site conditions such as sealing and weathering. Colours should be chosen from actual pavers and not photographs.
