Tucked away in a closed-off room, the owner's previous u-shaped kitchen could be easily forgotten. Designer Fred Tabet of Wonderful Kitchens set out to create a new kitchen, worthy of centre stage.

Taking pride of place in the home, the new open-plan kitchen has been incorporated into the larger dining and lounge living area, reclaiming its rightful spot within the home.

Through the use of crisp White on White polyurethane and carefully executed clean lines, the kitchen appears refreshed and revitalised. Far from vanilla, however, timber detailing and a decorative tiled border give the kitchen an edge over the rest of the home.

Taking their lead from a traditional European working kitchen, the owners opted for a drawer-heavy design so as not to detract attention from the beautiful raked ceiling with bulky wall cabinets.

Providing plenty of storage options, a generous-sized preparation island and full height glass splashback for cooking splatters, the kitchen is completely equipped and ready for a full-scale dinner party.

Or, if the owners are in the mood for something slightly more intimate the kitchen also offers the perfect spot for the family to congregate and catch up on the day's events.

The absence of overhead cabinets makes the kitchen a focal point and gives it a clean contemporary feel.
