Residential air filtration from HRV Australia setting a new standard

HRV Director, Dave Kennedy says that HRV gets regular feedback from asthmatics and allergy sufferers who have noticed a significant improvement in health and general well-being along with reductions in associated doctor visits and medical costs, 'we can't cure asthma and allergies but we can certainly remove many of the triggers'.

HRV's Air Filter is a hospital-grade, deep pleated, graduated density, electrostatic filter (0.4 micron). Filter media sourced from Sweden using higher grade European F6 filtration standards. The filter cartridge is replaced every 18months. The filter has been independently tested by Scandfilter AB to verify its efficiency.

House-hold Dust Reduction
This achieved two-fold. Firstly the filter traps airborne particles down to 0.4 of a micron, including dust, vehicle emissions, pollens, mould spores, bacteria and other allergens.

Secondly, through positively pressurising your home these contaminants have less chance of entering the home through the open windows and doors. The few contaminants that manage to enter your home have little chance of settling on surfaces due to the constant air changes and the good thing is - there are no draughts.

The result means higher air quality for occupants to breathe and less time required to keep the surfaces of your home clean and more time to do the things you want. Conventional systems simply recirculate the same stale air around and around with little or no filtration. This means dust is more prevalent and the air is artificially dried to the point where occupants often complain of dehydration.

The HRV uses natural air with no artificial heating or cooling and because the air is filtered, there is significant dust reduction in the house.

Health Benefits
According to the Department of Health and Ageing Healthy Homes Report (2002) Australians list air quality as one of their highest environmental concerns 'as most of us spend more than 90% of our lives indoors, it is worth thinking more closely about air quality especially inside the home (p.3).'

Over our lifetime 60% of our exposure to all toxic airborne particles occurs in our own home. This level of medical grade filtration as a standard inclusion is unheard of in Australian domestic applications until this point. The positive pressure system created by the HRV also minimise's the introduction of these contaminants through the conventional means of open windows and doors, however occupants can choose to have windows and doors open and not worry about wasting money as you would with air-conditioning or gas heating.

Fresh air with the windows closed- by introducing several exchanges of fresh air per hour when the system is in heating or cooling mode, HRV is unique in that it does not recirculate stale air. 'The ducted air systems we typically use may heat or cool recirculated indoor air, but don't introduce fresh air from outdoors or attempt to remove pollutants (Healthy Homes, p.26).

Moisture is one of the catalysts for the breeding of dust mites and mould. The reduction of moisture by ventilation in your household items simply reduces the habitat and with it the number one trigger for asthma sufferers along with mould and mildew.

Through a combination of whole home heating and cooling, unparalleled filtration and airflow performance, both temperature variation and moisture retention are minimised or eliminated in an HRV home.
