Xypex Australia MegaMix II concrete remedy

Copes Creek Dam, built in the late 1940's, is situated above Falls Creek in the Alpine area of Victoria. The Dam serves as regulating pondage for Pretty Valley Dam, part of AGL southern hydro scheme. Copes Creek Dam is subjected to extreme seasonal conditions, including freeze thaw deterioration of the concrete due to the extensive snow coverage and cold temperatures. Xypex was specified and applied to rehabilitate the structure and to provide protection to ensure long term durability of the important asset.

Preparation included aggressive removal of all loose materials until a solid substrate was achieved thus optimising the surface to receive both Xypex Concentrate and Xypex MegaMix II. Prior to applying the repair mortar (Xypex MegaMix II), Xypex Concentrate was applied to promote crystalline growth at depth, thus preventing moisture absorption and continuation of the freeze thaw effect.

Total area treated was 300 square meters for both products. All work was carried out by Southern Hydro personnel in conjuntion with Xypex technical staff.
