NEWS ARTICLE ARCHIVESBuilding Maintenance Equipment Melbourne by E.W. Cox![]() At 250 m high, the Rialto Tower is the highest building in the Melbourne Skyline. The South Tower is serviced by 3 units, whilst the North Tower is serviced by a single unit on Level 58. The Level 58 unit was used to replace the original systems on what is now the visitor observation deck. Whilst significantly larger that the original machines installed in 1984, the new machine was engineered to operate on the existing 1800 mm narrow gauge track system. The level 58 machine is based around the longreach, and incorporates a two stage, luffing, telescoping truss jib. In order to meet the cradle restraint requirements of the local standards, the jib luffs down by 12.5° on the South face. Cradle restraint is via a combination of mullion guides, and electrically interlocked cradle restraint lanyards. The two ends of the cradle extend to provide complete facade access. |
