Corrosion Resistance (FRP) from Composite Engineering

Corrosion Resistance from Composite Engineering

Isophthalic Polyester Resin (ISO)

ISO polyester products generally don't corrode, they have strong impact and thermal shock resistance. ISO polyester resins are considered to have "moderate" corrosion resistance (compared to vinyl ester resins) when used in applications which are subjected to water, acids, weak bases, and hydrocarbons such as gasoline and oil.

Vinyl Ester Resin

Technically vinyl ester resins are polyester resins, however they are normally classified separately from polyesters due to their enhanced mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. Vinyl esters offer enhanced strength and generally better impact and thermal shock resistance than polyester resins. These resins show excellent resistance to acids, alkalis, hypochlorites, and many solvents.

Compared to stainless steel both polyester resins and vinyl ester resins have excellent corrosion resistance, are generally cheaper and require far less maintenance.

Composite Engineering supply vinyl ester and polyester FRP handrails, ladders, boardwalks as well as custom fabricated applications for industries ranging such as the rail industry, oil and gas industry, mining industry, and coastal and marine industry just to name a few.
