Synthetic Turf for Sporting Fields by TigerTurf Australia

Albert Park Lake - the latest to benefit from TigerTurf

Minister for Sport, Recreation and Youth Affairs, James Merlino was on hand to mark the commencement of work on the two synthetic pitches at Albert Park recently. Mr Merlino said that the pitches were the first stage in the wider project to develop and improve elite and community sport facilities and participation in Albert Park.

The TigerTurf synthetic pitches are part of the $50.3 State Sports Facilities Project that will transform the Lakeside Oval and will be available for use by local Soccer, Touch Football and ultimate Frisbee teams, providing a much needed facility capable of being used day in, day out, providing a consistent, safe playing surface with the play characteristics of freshly watered natural grass but without the need for water. Jo Prothero, TigerTurf's Marketing Manager says 'it is the first time I have heard of a TigerTurf synthetic pitch being used for ultimate Frisbee'. Victorian Flying Disc Association President Matthew Hui said the new facilities will be a great training ground for local, state and national teams in preparation for next years world championships in the Czech Republic. Australia's men's and women's ultimate Frisbee teams are currently ranked in the top five in the world ahead of the likes of Germany, France and South Africa.

The vertically draining base will allow the rain water to be collected in the storm water and directed back in to the lake.

The pitches are scheduled for completion early 2010.
