NEWS ARTICLE ARCHIVESFLOORChef Supports World's Greatest ShaveFLOORChefs take it all off! Hair that is! On Friday 16th March, three brave FLOORChefs showed their support for the Leukaemia Foundation and participated in the World's Greatest Shave. That's right, it was off to the hairdressers and this time "a little off the sides" wasn't on the menu! To give you a little background on the foundation and their initiative, their website powerfully captures the vital role they play - "The foundation does important work by providing free practical and emotional support to people with blood cancer and their families, as well as investing millions in research. Since 1998, over a million people have shaved or coloured their hair, raising in excess of $120 million." "Today 31 Australians will be given the devastating news that they have leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma or a related blood disorder. That's more than 11,500 people this year. Although survival rates are improving, blood cancers like these are the second biggest cause of cancer death in Australia. The Leukaemia Foundation receives no ongoing government funding, so supporting this event makes our Vision to Cure and Mission to Care possible." While FLOORChef is always happy to pitch in for a good cause of any description, like many people they too have personally witnessed the dreadful impacts this particular disease can have. That experience made the decision to participate an easy one and motivated them to take their fundraising efforts to another level. In the end, while none of the participants quite had Fabio-like tresses or went for the full bald look, they still managed to raise over $2600 from the generous FLOORChef community. Thank you so much to each and every one of you who dug deep into your own pockets - we really appreciate it! Special thanks must also go to the lovely ladies, Gina and Kate, at Old Mates Barber Shop in Acacia Ridge, QLD, who graciously donated their time and expertise to help make the boys look semi-presentable (haha). For those people wanting evidence of the so-called bravery, please take a look at the footage below showing the Australian FLOORChefs and their date with the hairdresser. I think you'll find that not only were they brave, but they did it all with a smile on their face! |
