Designs

There are many choices to be made when choosing a staircase; after all, the stair is a prominent asset to your house and the gateway to your next storey. Whether it's a feature of the house or simple access to the attic there is still a large range of different design and structure principles to choose from.

• Closed Rise
  There are riser boards between each tread, this is normally used if the stair is going to be closed underneath.
• Open Rise
  There is a gap between each tread allowing your to see through to underneath.
• Closed String
  The string is routed out to hold the treads and risers. You can't see the line of the treads and risers from the side.
• Cut String
  The string is cut out in the shape of the treads and risers. Also available with cut string are frets and scotia's (decorative timber pieces that go on the stringer).
