Hot Metal® finds its way to CFMEU with a dynamic refurbishment

The successful Goodwin Design Team has displayed their creative talent with the recent completion of the CFMEU refurbishment of its 2500m² premises in Melbourne. Goodwin Design created a contemporary, open plan design, re-inventing the building, making it relevant to the needs of a 21st century organisation. To add dynamics, this smart fit out has been accentuated with applications of Hot Metal® laminate trend colour, lemon yellow in the popular random pattern. The design has forged a visual identity for the CFMEU that reflects its values and goals, within the construction, forestry, mining and energy industries.

The fit out features a colour palette inspired from raw materials such as metal, stone, concrete and glass. Finishes have been used in safety colours especially yellow. Hot Metal® laminate in lemon yellow and the random pattern is one surface finishes that won appeal and so was used as splashbacks in the staff amenity area. Hot Metal's® lustrous finish in vivid lemon yellow offers stimulation to the staff amenity surrounds giving an energetic and optimistic feel. Hot Metal® as a splashback was specified for performance and visual impact along with its other qualities being, functional, durable, decorative, low maintenance, a grout free surface and fire resistant.

Another important feature of the design was to achieve established pathways and connections between divisions and floors throughout the premises. To solve this Hot Metal® laminate lemon yellow was applied to highlight features such as decorative panels and insertions to walls and partitioning. Hot Metal® laminate in lemon yellow and the random pattern was favoured as it aids clear wayfinding and movement between divisions and floors within the building.

Hot Metal® was the obvious surface finish choice for this project because as a product it delivered results required by the design and it reflects the CFMEU's objectives, values and goals, that being, to express current time with a view to looking forward to a bright future.
