Artcraft Superlux halogen downlight models to minimise the risk of fire

Safety by Design
Eliminating safety concerns of heat generated into the roof space by downlights is a potential fire hazard, electrical wiring and building element fires can be ruled out when Superlux Peace of Mind downlights and 'Zero Flammability' building insulation are installed.

Engineered for safety and complete peace of mind, advanced safety features of Superlux halogen downlights include a thermal cut-off, enclosed metal outer body, heat sink and fully assembled electronic transformer.

Thermal Cut-off
Special to Superlux, the thermal cut off safety feature provides additional peace of mind to occupants by cycling off-on if the downlight reaches an excessive temperature.

Permanent, Enclosed Metal Outer Bodies
Minimising and isolating the downlight heat source - incandescent lamps have 210°C lamp holders and lamp filament temperatures exceed 1,000°C - Superlux downlights feature a large outer body that prevents any possible contact with building elements, thus aiding correct safe installation and longer lamp life.

Heat Sink
Halogen downlights have 350°C lamp holders and lamp filament temperatures of 2000 - 3000°C. Superlux downlights feature a 'heat sink' that pulls this heat away from the lamp holder and ceiling, avoiding heat getting trapped within the ceiling surface.

Fully Assembled Electronic Transformers for Quick and
Thorough Installation

Removing the risk of overheating transformers which can scorch surrounding insulation in ceilings after incorrect installation, Superlux transformers are bracket mounted in clear air space. This ensures no direct contact with the insulation and removes the potential risk of dragging the transformer or low temperature house wires when changing lamps.

Wiring rules AS/NZS3000:2007 cite the lighting appliance standard AS/NZS60598.1 and 2 which state the maximum allowable ceiling temperatures allowed, but how can an electrician know the above ceiling temperatures?

  • Superlux downlights are tested with building insulation abutted to them. The resulting designs ensuring ceiling temperatures are below the maximum allowed.
  • Unlike component style downlights that require considerable judgement of the 'installation system' downlights and accessories, Superlux downlights minimise risk at installation and even later from moving building insulation, nesting rodents and over lamping.
