Speed Humps Australia temporary speed humps - Police speed gun
trial results

Monday 11th December 2006 two (2) Sunshine Coast Traffic Branch police officers measured the effectiveness of our Temporary Speed Humps at a Council road work site, adjacent to a state school, in Caloundra. Effectively the recordings show the speed of vehicles was immediately reduced by more than 50%.

They measured the speed of over 200 passing vehicles and relayed their findings to a Caloundra City Council Risk Assessment Officer to document. The speed recordings were performed firstly in the morning to coincide with school drop off times and school zone speed limits and then again at lunchtime, outside of the desired 40km/hour school zone speed limit.

The same measuring point was used on all speed trials, both with and without our Temporary Speed Humps in place. The trials resulted in astounding differences in speed being recorded and these are shown below;

TimeKM/Hr (no speed hump)KM/Hr (with speed hump)Speed Variation% Variation
8am - 9am
(school zone speed of 40km/hr enforced)
35.66km/hr17.3km/hr18.3km51.3%
12noon - 1pm
(outside school zone hours)
42.57km/hr14.76km/hr27.81km65.3%

As can be seen from the above, installation of just one of Speed Humps Australia's Temporary Speed Humps will result in a minimum of 50% reduction in travelling speed.

Can you afford not to install a speed hump?
