Purpose

The newly revised standards on Disability Access are the basis of the new Access to Premises Standard that is being incorporated into the Building Code of Australia.

This workshop will look at the changes that have taken place and the effect that those changes will have on our built environment. The changes that have taken place are being aligned with the Federal and State Disability Legislation to ensure that no longer will there be any disputes between the level of compliance being met, be it the Building Code of Australia or the Federal and State Disability Legislation. These standards are extensively referenced by the industry to ensure that disability access compliance is met. Make it your business to be up to date with the changes in disability access and to provide a more accessible built environment for every member of our community.

Course Outline

  • Refer to the six major disability groups and the disability access design criteria which benefit these groups
  • Outline of the changes to the standards and how these changes will benefit people with disabilities, through an interactive presentation to reinforce understanding
  • Practical examples of each change in design
  • Study examples of why many designs fall short of the compliance requirements and how to overcome repeating the same mistakes
