Wrought Iron Gate Restoration Sydney from Wrought Artworks

wrought iron gates

Built in the mid 1800s of wrought iron, these institutional gates required reworking of the bearings to make them operate easily, broken elements were remade and fixed to the gates in the original manner with rivets and screws. Interestingly some of the screws were 7/32 and 11/32 British Standard Whitworth, an uncommon size.

The gates required a special mobile crane to remove and reinstall them due to the awkward nature of the site.

The gates were sandblasted, primed with epoxy zinc, then painted with a micasious iron oxide epoxy and finally coated with two coates of two pack polyurethane black gloss for many years of trouble free maintenance.
