Blivet design makes upsizing easy

The Kelair-Blivet™ packaged sewage treatment plant is a stand-alone solution for the treatment of raw sewage in various applications such as: high- rise apartment blocks, townships and villages, golf courses, restaurants, hotels and resorts, remote sites, mining sites, power stations, sports complexes and many more.

The Blivet is a low- maintenance, compact plant capable of treating sewage up to 22kg of BOD per day, with sizes suitable for 30 to 400 people.

Containing just two electrical devices, the Blivet requires only periodic de-sludging and bearing inspection. Shaft breakage is also eliminated due to the buoyancy of the rotors.

Kelair's customer is a mining company based in a remote mining village on the west coast of Tasmania. They have numerous Blivets ranging in sizes from BL500 to BL3500 positioned from the village to the mine pit.

Due to the expansion of the open pit, the existing Blivet has become too small to cope with the additional population, so they wanted to upsize the plant to a BL3500 which is capable of handling up to 17.87kg of BOD per day.

The compact design and flexibility of the units make them easily removable for re-siting, so the old Blivet will be relocated to the processing plant to replace their old system.

The Blivet comprises a primary settlement, aerobic zone, final settlement and sludge storage. It is designed to accept raw sew- age and produce a high quality final effluent without the need for ancillary tankage or equipment.

As every application condition is different, the Blivet can be buried up to the deck level such that the impact on the landscape is not intrusive, or it can be positioned above-ground, normally surrounded by a walkway.

There were other plants considered for the new application but none of them had as many standard features as the Kelair-Blivet, and as our customer has other Blivets on site they knew there was very little maintenance required, and properly run, they give years of trouble-free treatment.
