NEWS ARTICLE ARCHIVESFLOORChef Floor Helps Snare Dulux Colour Award![]()
For 26 years Dulux has celebrated and rewarded creative use of colour in architecture and design - this year it was the Venny, a government-funded communal backyard and play space for children from a public housing estate in Melbourne that caught the eye of judges. The building showcases a large community art piece in the form of the main flooring area, which is where FLOORChef was able to contribute materials and expertise to make a bold flooring concept a reality. As you can see in the photos below (taken by Andrew Wuttke), the 100m2 floor actually consists of 1000's of pieces of children's artwork encapsulated within the floor itself. The idea behind the amazing centrepiece was to preserve the rich history of the building as well as provide the participating children with a strong sense of ownership for their space. Ralph Webster, Senior Architect at the City of Melbourne, is extremely happy with how the project has come to life. "We were very pleased with the award and we are still pleased with the floor, which is holding up very well despite the building now accommodating over 1000 children a week during the school holidays!" He was very grateful for our help throughout the project and also singled out for particular praise the efforts of artist Aliey Ball, community coordinator Danielle von der Borch, our FLOORChef Luke Hiddle and of course the children of the Venny community who made the interlays.
