Alimak Scando Rack and Pinion Construction Hoists

Two Alimak Scando construction hoists replace
a temporary hoist at Probuild's Wrap Residences

Alimak Hek replaced a temporary hoist with two Alimak Scando rack and pinion construction hoists on Probuild's Wrap Residences. Limited space on site required each hoist to travel through a 9-level penetration in the building, keeping footpaths and thoroughfares clear.

Wrap Residences, located in the heart of Melbourne's Southbank, is a 131 metre apartment tower featuring 298 premium apartments and ground floor retail space. The tower features an external metal frame wrapping around the structure. Construction of the $88 million project commenced in November 2011, with the tower completed in March 2014.

With construction works underway, project builder, Probuild, approached Alimak Hek to replace a temporary hoist installed on site with two Alimak Scando rack and pinion construction hoists. Following dismantle and removal of the previous hoist, Alimak Hek completed installation of the first Alimak Scando in February 2013, with the second to follow in March.

Given the limited space available on site, penetrations were made in the first 9 levels of the building, allowing the hoists to run up through the internal structure to avoid obstructing footpaths and thoroughfares. The two Alimak Scando hoists remained on site until December 2013, providing personnel access and materials transport to all 41 levels of the Wrap Residences tower structure.
