Tactile disability standard compliant solution by Global Safe Technologies

The former Ice Works has now been totally refurbished and re-opened as a commercial and residential housing complex. It's a long way from the former ice making plant that it was. The construction company for this development has once again relied on the Global Safe Team to sort out the installation of the tactiles.

Global Safe provided them with an AS/NZS 1428.4 standard compliant installation on various indoor and outdoor situations on differing substrates.

One of the things that attracted the construction company was the installation method. Due to the tactile design, specialised equipment used, which provides a very fast and basically dust free installation and the product has virtually zero failure rate.

The tactiles indicators have undergone various independent tests for slip resistance, wear factor as well as luminance contrast. These test results provide sufficient information to the client regarding not only the standard compliance of the indicators, but also about the expected life of the product.

The company's expertise in the area of working on greatly varying surfaces ensured that the installation took place on all surfaces without damaging the substrate or using any types of bonding agent. Not using a bonding agent is very important for two reasons;

  • When the bonding agent is not strong enough, the tactile indicators will "pop-off" which not only defeats the purpose but also can be very unsightly.
  • When the tactile indicator eventually will require replacement, removal of the existing tactiles my mechanical means can damage the substrate which can be very costly.

Global Safe Technologies local floor safety expert has also worked very closely with the construction manager to ensure that the tactiles were installed as required by the standard.

The job was completed with time and budget and both the construction company as well as the client are very satisfied with the result.

Global Safe's industry unique risk management program called The Floor Safety Maintenance Program© or FSMP© is also offered to the client ensuring ongoing monitoring and reporting of the surface condition. This program is an integral part of the floor safety solution and offered at No Additional Cost for the period of 2 years and provides a very valuable service to our clients.
