AAMI Park - Melbourne's latest and greatest stadium benefits from TigerTurf

AAMI Park was officially opened on Friday, 7th May, hosting the Australian v New Zealand VB Test Match. Despite two tries from the Kiwis in the final 12 minutes, Australia christened AAMI Park with a 12-8 win.

The new stadium benefits from a 2.5m wide TigerTurf synthetic grass perimeter run off to all sides of the pitch. TigerTurf Australia installed their FR65R sand and rubber infilled synthetic surface as part of the finishing touches to the ground. Pitch surrounds are a hive of activity, subject to extensive foot traffic so TigerTurf FR65R will provide superior wear and tear to natural grass, with added support due to the 10mm rubber shockpad underneath the grass. The system conforms to International Rugby Board (IRB) standards.

The Gold Coast Robina Stadium in Queensland, home to the Titans rugby, choose the same system for their side line several years ago.

AAMI Park will be home to A-Leagues Melbourne Victory and new team Melbourne Heart, National Rugby League's Melbourne Storm and the new Melbourne Super 15 team, Melbourne Rebels. The stadium capacity is 30,000 and will provide Melbourne with a much needed medium sized stadium to get the spectators closer to the action.
