Highest profile, not least for its price stage, is the A$1 billion Calypso Bay waterfront marina and community at Jacob's Well between Brisbane and Surfers Paradise. The three-stage project now taking shape is the realization of the long-held dream of Bill and Imelda Roche (the Roche Group) - two of Australia's wealthiest private developers.
The A$10 million 30-berth first stage of the marina and waterfront, featuring a huge expanse of Tanalised® E-treated spotted gum decking and double-treated Koppers
marine piles, is completed. "At 450 metres and 7.2 metres wide, this is our biggest project ever," says Outdoor Structures Australia (OSA) director Ted Stubbersfield, "and is probably the largest wooden deck in Eastern Australia." A suspended walkway and boardwalks through mangroves into Jacob's Well village are also planned. Some of Calypso Bay's most prestigious Grand Canal blocks were released into the market earlier this year, ranging in price from A$620,000 to A$750,000. When completed, the complex will have 1400 residential dwellings, a supermarket, tavern, 300-berth marina, shopping complex, restaurants and a population of more than 3000.
Emerald Lakes The seven-page project will eventually have 1400 homes set around man-made waterways and include a commercial precinct, sports complex and tavern. Stage two of the project known as The Vistas, features an array of 160 contemporary homes, surrounded by Emerald Lakes golf course. Design, systems engineering and materials for the sweeping expanse of waterfront decking and boardwalk were again supplied by OSA - a combination of proven Australian hardwood, CN oil and non-CCA Tanilised® E on the decking and Koppers marine piles.
