Rondo Building Services - Project Brisbane Square - Contractor NWCI

The Brisbane Square project is a 42 storey office block with retail on the lower two levels and an observation deck on top. It has been built in the middle of Brisbane, consuming an entire block surrounded by Adelaide, George, Nth Quay and Queen Streets. All of the office space was taken before the project was completed including 18 levels by The Brisbane City Council and 14 levels for Suncorp.

In order to begin the project, 2 buildings needed to be demolished, one of which was a 10 storey office block. The builders, Baulderstone Hornibrook, chose NWCI of Brisbane to do the job for them as NWCI is the largest Drywall Contractor in the south east corner of Queensland.

NWCI at this time have 80 tradesmen, 3 Foremen and 2 Brisbane based Administers on site. With the external wall framing, NWCI used Rondo's expert design service with Andrew Byrne working closely with the NWCI and the Baulderstone Hornibrook to achieve the desired results. NWCI have installed timber ply to both the Key lock and Stud walls. With the external wall frame fixed to both 9mm CFC and Aplocic wall cladding.

Rondo has also assisted with the designs for the external soffit so it can bear wind loads up to 5Kpa. This project been very difficult for both Rondo and NWCI to coordinate the delivery of material, as there is no where on site to store it. This meant that all material had to be craned on and off by one of the two cranes kept on site. All Rondo studs had to be cut to size off site, and then delivered at the desired length in order to help both the builder and the contractor minimise the waste on the project.
