Designer Charles Case from Wonderful Kitchens was thrilled to be approached by the owners to renovate their old kitchen. "The previous kitchen was handyman built with dark timber tops and made poor use of the area," he says. The owners asked Charles to design a French Provincial style kitchen that would do justice to the large open-plan living/dining/kitchen area. In keeping the colour palette fairly simple, Charles allows the special features of the room to take centre stage. Specially moulded pieces add a touch of French Provincial authenticity to the kitchen's design with dentil capping, fluted columns, rosettes and corbels adding to the visual appeal of the space. Because the kitchen is part of the main living and dining area of the home it was essential that the design allow for easy access points into and out of the room. The main island bench acts as an integral piece to combine all three spaces as well as set the boundary point for the kitchen. Easily access from all sides, the island bench has a dual purpose as it is also the dresser for the dining room. A feature has been made of the cooktop area with a specially constructed fireplace canopy adding to the sense of a time gone by but cleverly concealing the modern, highly efficient extractor fan beneath. All drawers within the kitchen also feature Blum Tandembox fittings to ensure a high level of functionality at all times.
