NEWS ARTICLE ARCHIVESTemporary Fire Egress Staircase & Stucture by Arden Architectural Stairs
Arden awarded contract for QUT Gardens Point "L" Block Leighton Contractors have, once again, contracted Arden to provide their design solutions and construction expertise, but this time, to a rather unusual project. Facing extremely tight schedules, Leighton approached us to devise the most simple and time effective solution possible for a large, multi-storey temporary fire egress staircase and structure required to replace an existing staircase earmarked for demolition to allow the first stage of the new QUT Science and Technology Precinct project to commence. When completed in 2012, the 10-level, two-tower facility of the QUT Science and Technology Precinct will house up to 500 scientists, postgraduate research students and teaching staff. Many thousands of people will use the various facilities every week. As a remarkable side story, the "L" Block building these works are being attached to, will also be demolished once the new building alongside is complete, in about two years time, to make way for the final stage of the QUT Science and Technology Precinct project. Though not exactly a "Feature Staircase" and unlikely to grace any picture gallery, this project is crucial to the overall success of this landmark project. We at Arden wish to thank the staff and management of Leighton Contractors for their continued patronage. |
