NEWS ARTICLE ARCHIVESEpoxy Surface Coatings Melbourne from Aitken Freeman![]() Epigard C - High build chemical resistance epoxy coating Epigard C is a 100% solids, high build, chemical resistant coating system for use alone, or with hard wearing aggregates to produce a skid resistance coating for steel and concrete. Epigard C is used where a high resistance to chemicals is required. Epigard C is supplied as a 2 part epoxy kit, comprising Base and Hardener components. It can be used with a broadcast aggregate to give a non slip, skid resistant finish. BENEFITS
CHEMICAL RESISTANCE
20% Sulphuric acid - Excellent TYPICAL PROPERTIES
Pot Life @ 20°C - 45 minutes PREPARATION All contacted surfaces must be free of oil, grease or other contamination which may inhibit bond. Any loose concrete should be removed and repaired to provide a solid foundation for the coating. Prime any porous areas using Resiloc Binder applied at 8-10m² per litre. MIXING Epigard C is suitable for mixing using a drill and suitable paddle. Mix the Base and Hardener components for 5 minutes to ensure thorough mixing. Only mix that quantity of material (usually one kit at a time) that can be used within the setting time. APPLICATION Apply the Epigard C by brush, roller or spray at the rate of 5-7m² per litre, in an even pattern over the substrate. Apply grit to the surface of the first coat if a non-slip finish is required. Apply the second coat of Epigard C in the same manner as the first coat, however coverage will be less per litre of product due to the surface texture. Take care not to leave an excess of Epigard C on the surface, which may reduce the skid resistance. CURING Epigard C is suitable for pedestrian traffic after 24 hours. Allow 7 days for full cure of product. CLEANING Epigard C should be removed from tools and equipment immediately after completion using Resiloc Thinners. Cured material can only be removed mechanically. ESTIMATED MATERIAL USAGE
Resiloc Binder: 8-10m2per litre Note that coverage for the second coat of Epigard C will be reduced if grit is being used for a non-slip finish.
Fine Grit: 3kg per metre When broadcasting grit, allow extra material to saturate the surface. Excess can be removed once the first coat of Epigard C has cured. SUPPLY & STORAGE Epigard C is supplied in pre-weighed 1.5 litre, 6 litre, or 15 litre kits comprising Base and Hardener. Resiloc Grit is supplied in 20kg bags. Epigard C has a shelf life of 12 months if kept in dry store in the original unopened containers. PRECAUTIONS Where temperatures of less than 10°C or greater than 35°C are encountered, consult our Technical Staff for specific advice. Epigard C has been formulated to minimise the problem of water spotting which may be evident under cool and humid curing conditions. Trials should be conducted where these conditions will prevail during application of the product. Do not attempt to rework or retemper any partially set product and avoid waste by using all the mixed kit within the pot life of the product. Liquid epoxy products may exotherm and set prematurely if not used immediately. Once mixed pour the Epigard C out into a shallow tray for application by brush or roller. Epigard C is non toxic, but it is alkaline in nature. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water and seek medical advice. Contacted skin should be washed immediately with clean soapy water. Do not use solvent. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately - do not induce vomiting. Protective gloves, goggles and clothing should be worn. Repeated contact with epoxy resins and hardeners can cause sensitisation in some individuals handling this type of product. Where this occurs seek medical advice before continuing use. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are available to users of Aitken Freeman products on request.
