Environmental and building benefits of using Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) is a popular material widely used in the building sector, most commonly for insulation and acoustic purposes and also in the packaging industry. Expanded polystyrene is comprised of 98% air and 2% polystyrene making it a highly efficient use of raw material. A cost-effective, easy to use material, it performs as an acoustic and thermal insulator, is moisture resistant, recyclable and environmentally sound. Expanded polystyrene remains inert, is non-toxic and odourless and has superior insulation qualities. Expanded polystyrene is dimensionally stable and does not deteriorate with age, as long as it is not exposed to direct sunlight. Using expanded polystyrene for packaging is advantageous as it has a high strength to weight ratio. Our exterior wall cladding product, Poligard® wall panels, is very light weight and has a high thermal efficiency and compressive strength. In addition, the manufacture of expanded polystyrene does not use any of the CFC's, HFC's or HCFC's, all of which contribute to the depletion of the earth's ozone layer. |
