Epoch™ L1 GPS System from MAPC with both static & kinematic surveying

Spectra Precision has released its new improved 2007 version of its rugged, reliable and user-friendly Survey Grade (sub 1cm) GPS.

The Epoch 10 two-receiver system is now better value for money than ever before, as it is being offered with special introductory pricing for Spring of 2007 for $9,450ex, plus a whole host of new features including 2 days hands on training and 2 months of phone / email support.

It is Australia's most affordable, lightweight survey grade GPS, offering both static and kinematic surveying.

Epoch 10 GPS two-receiver system contains:

  • 2 x pocket pc (Recon) field data capture units complete with;
    • Integrated GPS receiver attachment.
    • Field Surveyor software.
    • Recon tripod/GPS pole clamp.
  • 2 x multi-path rejecting, Epoch GPS Antennas.
  • Survey Office Software for your PC to post process your GPS data to sub centimetre results.
  • 2 days hands on training - conditions apply.
  • 2 months phone / email support.

The Epoch 10 GPS System is ideally suited to extending control, saving you countless hours and kilometres of traditional optical traversing. To traverse 10kms it can take - a day, a week, a month, depending what's between the two points.

To GPS 10kms - it will generally be done in a day - no matter what's in between.

Advantages of GPS over traditional optical traversing techniques;

  • Significant productivity gains - less time consuming - less staff required to complete the task.
  • No line of sight required between base & rover.
  • Highly accurate.
  • Signals are available 24 / 7 - can operate day or night.
  • Signals are free.
  • Signals work in any weather - no more waiting for favourable conditions.
  • Less chance of human error - bubbles out etc.

Add another receiver to increase productivity even more. Typically, you will recover costs with a two-receiver system, in around 5 or 6 jobs, and save 100's of km's per year in total station traversing. Add a third receiver to your system and you will increase productivity exponentially, and recover your outlay quicker.

Say you have a job, that requires sessions at 6 locations;

  • 3 receiver system - would need only 4 x 30 minute sessions, plus move setups only 3 times.
  • 2 receiver system - would need at least 9 x 30 minute sessions, plus all the extra travel time between setups as you have to move setups around 9 times.
  • Both increase productivity over traversing, but 3 receivers over 2 receivers makes it that much quicker.

Recon data collectors feature;

  • Large colour touch screen - great in sunlight.
  • Fast data transfer - 1mb/sec PC transfer.
  • Runs Windows Mobile operating system (word, excel, etc).
  • CF expansion ports.
  • Ultra rugged - exceeds military specifications - water and dust proof.
  • Compact and lightweight.

MAPC recently attended comprehensive training, held my Michael Stump from Spectra Precision on the new system in Adelaide, which involved both field and classroom work covering all aspects of the system.
