Johnson Screens lighting concept for Cattanooga River walkway

Working with James Carpenter Design Associates of New York City, Johnson Screens built a new lighting concept for the Chattanooga riverfront walkway.

Seven stainless steel obelisks were strategically placed along the pier. These stainless steel obelisks will bathe the new pier in a soft blanket of light. The light masts are 838mm in diameter and 12 metres tall. The variable slot openings give the appearance of changing colours as you gaze down the pier.

These extraordinary light masts show Johnson Screens' ability to bring stainless steel Vee-wire® products into the architectural world. Johnson Screens and James Carpenter have joined together on several major architectural jobs including; 7 World Trade Center siding and lobby interior, Battery Park fences and Chattanooga light masts.

Owners: Allied Arts River City Company for Chattanooga Downtown Redevelopment Corporation.
Light Mast Artist: James Carpenter Design Associates.
Light Mast Structural Engineer: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP.
Landscape Architect: Hargreaves Associates.
