High definition home theatres with AVD Australia

You don't have to build a dedicated Theatre to experience the
world's best image!

The Challenge
Forming part of this highly integrated house is a Theatre that beggars belief. As part of the design and integration brief AVD Australia was asked to incorporate a High Definition Theatre into a living room, without influencing the architecture or impacting on the stunning interior design.

"Our client didn't want drop down projectors or large unsightly speakers cluttering the room, but at the same time wanted the best image available"
Sandy Howard, AVD

The Solution
To achieve the desired result product selection was very important. The biggest task was to hide the Runco VX-6c 1024p projector (with anamorphic lens assembly) into a bulkhead space and have the image project through a porthole located on the side of the bulkhead. As space was very restricted, AVD designed and made a special mounting bracket that allowed the projector to sit almost flush to the underside of the concrete above. This special bracket not only allowed for the secure mounting of the projector but also allowed the projector to be manipulated for maintenance purposes.

With the Runco Projector producing 6500 ANSI Lumens light output from its 1.2kW Xenon lamp, heat was also a big concern in the restricted space of the bulkhead. Again AVD engineered a solution that thermostatically turned on two extractor fans that increased the air flow with rising heat levels. This solution allowed the projector to maintain its specified working temperature during operation.

In maintaining the philosophy of 'No Clutter' a custom made 3500mm wide x 1970mm high side-tensioned motorised projection screen was made to suit the environment. Again this screen was located in the bulkhead section at the opposite end of the room giving a projected distance of approximately 6500mm.

Sonance Cinema II series of speakers including twin sub woofers and surround sound speakers were used in a ceiling flush mount configuration to achieve the desired result for 7.1 channels of surround sound.

To maintain the best possible image and sound quality Meridian equipment was used as the front end equipment.

Control of the entire environment was achieved through AMX touch screen technology mixed with Marantz touch screen based RF technology remote controls.
