Sustainable infrastructure software solutions from Bentley Systems

Bentley is the global leader dedicated to providing comprehensive software solutions for sustaining infrastructure. Architects, engineers, constructors, and owner-operators are indispensable in improving our world and our quality of life; the company's mission is to improve the performance of their projects and of the assets they design, build, and operate. Bentley sustains the infrastructure professions by helping to leverage information technology, learning, best practices, and global collaboration - and by promoting careers devoted to this crucial work.

Founded in 1984, Bentley has more than 2,800 colleagues, offices in more than 50 countries, annual revenues surpassing $500 million, and since 1993, has invested more than $1 billion in research, development, and acquisitions. Nearly 90 percent of the Engineering News-Record Top Design Firms are Bentley subscribers, and a 2008 Daratech study ranked Bentley as the world's #2 provider of geospatial software solutions.

The company's organization, which mirrors its focus on technology and user service, comprises two divisions: Bentley Operations and Bentley Software. Bentley Software technology development is under the direction of Bhupinder Singh, senior vice president. Bentley Operations is under the direction of Malcolm Walter, COO.

Research & Development
Since 1993, Bentley has strategically invested over $1 billion into R&D and acquisition to yield the world's most comprehensive software product and solution portfolio for sustaining infrastructure. The Bentley Software organization, with more than 750 colleagues in offices throughout the world, builds on a platform of MicroStation desktop and ProjectWise collaboration server technologies - an interoperable foundation tested and proven on the world's most demanding infrastructure projects.

Bentley's R&D strategic priorities include;

  • From data sharing to interoperability.
  • From project lifecycle to asset lifecycle.
  • From task productivity to asset performance.
  • From team interaction to distributed enterprise collaboration.
  • From products and services to lifecycle solutions.

Applied Research Group
The mission of Bentley's Applied Research Group is to look beyond the "next version" of software to identify, investigate, and validate new technologies and application areas to help improve the world's infrastructure. For 2009, key areas for Applied Research Group efforts include: computational design, distributed review and augmented reality, engineering optimization, real-time assets, and work packaging.

Bentley's Comprehensive Software Solutions, Products, and Professional Services
Bentley is distinct among software providers in that it offers;

  • Integrated applications with industry-proven interoperability. Bentley applications are designed to "intra-operate" across our platform and portfolio, and support industry-leading interoperability with other widely used software for architecture, engineering, construction, operations, and geospatial as well as with enterprise systems.
  • Collaboration solutions for distributed enterprises. ProjectWise is a scalable collaboration system that enables distributed enterprises to successfully deliver infrastructure projects by enabling users to manage, find, and share CAD, geospatial, and other project-related AEC content.
  • Innovative licensing and learning geared to the demands of today's infrastructure businesses. Bentley has designed subscription programs to help organizations adapt and learn quickly in order to maximize project and asset productivity.
  • Solutions for the infrastructure lifecycle. Bentley offers solutions designed around specific infrastructure asset types that combine integrated applications, professional services, and communities for sharing and learning best practices.

Bentley Solutions
Infrastructure projects are complex and the dynamics that drive them change over their lifecycle. No single application is adequate or appropriate to address the diverse set of challenges an infrastructure asset presents from its initial planning, design, and engineering through to construction, operations, and maintenance. That's why Bentley is delivering solutions for the entire lifecycle of the infrastructure asset, extending across the needs of the various disciplines and professions who will work on and with that asset over its lifetime.

A set of integrated applications and services built around its open platform to enable interoperations and collaboration, Bentley's solutions reflect the rich domain expertise of our development teams - enhanced by strategic acquisitions-as well as our active engagement with user organizations. Our solutions are further extended through our new "BE Communities" professional networking website, created specifically to empower the sharing of best practices, ideas, and content within each infrastructure solution community.

Bentley solutions address the lifecycle of the following infrastructure assets: roads, bridges, rail and transit, campuses (including airports), factories, buildings, power generation, mining and metals, oil and gas, water and wastewater, electric and gas utilities, communications, and cadastre and land development.

Bentley Products
Bentley's portfolio offers a unique breadth and depth of applications and the world's most widely used collaboration platforms for the design and construction of infrastructure.

Bentley Professional Services
The Bentley Professional Services team provides three categories of service;

  1. Business process consulting - needs analysis and recommendations based on an organization's business goals and current processes.
  2. Solution implementation - planning and implementation of Bentley and related software so its deployment best matches the business goals.
  3. System integration - assurance that Bentley and related solutions work as one with enterprise systems such as Oracle, SAP, SharePoint, and GIS environments.

Bentley Professional Services currently includes more than 500 professionals. Assignments range from one-day customized training sessions to projects spanning several man-years.

Anytime, Anywhere Learning - Training/Learning - The Bentley Institute
The Bentley Institute develops and delivers accredited professional learning programs. In offering continual access to professional development, these comprehensive learning resources help organizations gain a competitive advantage and reduce recruitment costs by attracting and retaining key personnel.

Bentley Institute's flexible delivery and commercial options make it easy to match learning resources to any business goal to achieve maximum return on investment. These include OnDemand eLearning, classroom learning, live distance learning, and account-specific training.

All Bentley Institute Learning Units are recorded to online transcripts, so individuals can communicate professional development achievements that help advance careers. Organizations can use online transcripts to match staffing with project needs to communicate an organization's competitive advantage to win the right business.

Innovative Subscription Programs
One of the ways in which Bentley offers its products and core services is by subscription - a licensing model that meets the unique business challenges of our users. The benefits of a subscription include reduced software and training costs, increased business agility, and streamlined administration of software assets.

Bentley's subscription programs enable organizations to maximize productivity by making sure people have the right tools at the right time. And training allows them to make the best use of the tools.

Bentley's innovative subscription programs include the following;

  • The Bentley SELECT subscription program helps organizations lower the total cost of ownership for Bentley software by providing flexible and pooled licensing, assisted support including "priority builds" of software when needed most, software upgrades to optimize productivity, Annual License Exchange (ALE) opportunities, and many other benefits for a fixed annual fee per license.
  • Bentley's Enterprise License Subscription (ELS) is an innovative program that provides significant competitive advantages while reducing annual software costs for large, multi-office, and global organizations responsible for sustaining infrastructure. Unlike other software subscription programs, the ELS provides infrastructure professionals with unrestricted access to a comprehensive software portfolio for a single annual fee.
  • Bentley LEARN The soon-to-be-launched enhanced Bentley LEARN subscription will add Bentley Institute's instructor-led distance learning to the program's extensive OnDemand eLearning offerings, but keeps the subscription at an attractive price point. Instructor-led distance learning applies state-of-the-art virtual technologies to eliminate travel time and costs.
  • Bentley's Enterprise Training Subscription (ETS) delivers comprehensive, flexible training to sites and entire organizations for a fixed annual fee, offering them the best way to become and remain well-trained organizations while streamlining budgeting and administration. An ETS delivers maximum training for the investment made through an unlimited mix of learning options including OnDemand eLearning, classroom learning, live distance learning, and account-specific training.
