Construction Hoists Used in Tight Building Space from Alimak Hek

Building works on Crema Constructions' Riverside Apartments, located in Melbourne's South Yarra, commenced in April 2010. The $42 million project involved the construction of a twenty-storey 217 apartment tower, complete with four levels of basement car parking.

Given the tight space constraints of the building site, limited access was available to accommodate the operation of a hoist or transport platform. As a solution, Alimak Hek engineered twin Scando 28/37 construction hoists to occupy a void in the centre of the building.

In this way, Crema Constructions were able to make full use of available space on site, while speeding-up construction through reduced manual handling and crane usage.

Alimak Hek worked closely with the design team at Crema Constructions to coordinate the install of the twin hoists through the building's central void. The unusual location of the hoists within the construction tower required careful planning and engineering to ensure minimal site interruption and maximum efficiency of operations on site.

The twin Scando hoists were installed in April 2011 and dismantled in December of the same year. During this period they provided fast, safe and efficient transport of heavy materials / payloads to each of the tower's 20 levels, while easily accommodating the 110 personnel on site daily.
