NEWS ARTICLE ARCHIVESStandard Compliant Disability Handrail from Moddex Group![]() The Australian Standard AS 1428.1-2009, for disability access, was implemented on 1 May, 2011. The new Disability (Access to Premises - Buildings) Standards 2010 known as the Premises Standards made under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA) apply to every new building project for which an application for a building permit approval is lodged with the relevant building surveyor on or after 1 May 2011. Today, building owners and managers, institutions and governments must ensure that access to their buildings as well as pedestrian protection and access in parklands and recreational facilities comply not only with aesthetics but also the relevant Australian Standards, OHS and regulatory requirements. The Moddex Assistrail - range of Standards compliant disability handrails meets all access and mobility requirements. The range of galvanised fittings suitable for stairs, ramps and walkways meet all Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) requirements and building regulations, offering the right handrail and balustrade solution for ramps, stairways, pathways and walkways. No onsite welding, no toxic fumes, unlimited and versatile configurations, flush connection components and smooth, streamlined handrails are just some of the reasons Assistrail handrails are being installed throughout properties and open areas Australia wide. The system is ideally used as a retrofit solution for an upgrade to an existing building. Due to Assistrail's add-on components, a new handrail can be added onto an existing railing system to ensure compliance. Architects and building practitioners should design, assess and specify against the new Premises Standards to be compliant. This will provide more certainty for building owners that their building complies with the Disability Discrimination Act. Developers who seek building permits after 1 May 2011 are advised to prepare building designs now that will comply with the Premises Standards for access and compliant disability handrails. Full compliance is just the beginning. The Moddex range of modular, galvanised steel balustrade, handrail, guardrail and safety barrier systems is increasingly being recognised as the leading solution for safety of pedestrians as well as property due to its unique design and limitless configurations. Being fully modular, no welding or fabrication is needed resulting in the market's most rapid and easily installed galvanised guardrail system requiring no specialist trades or tools. All Moddex handrail and balustrade systems can be installed and ready to use without the inhibitive costs or timeframes usually associated with traditional non-modular systems. Additionally, Moddex eliminates the disadvantages of traditional welded systems, providing high corrosion resistance handrails that can be supplied in a range of paint finishes to suit any application. All systems come with stainless steel, anti-vibration locking screws and vandal proof fixing accessories. |
