NEWS ARTICLE ARCHIVESStoneSub System for Kings School Project from StoneClip![]() The project in question is additional work to Kings school in North Parramatta, which is be undertaken by DenhamConstructions, who have selected M & J Smith Stone Masons to undertake the stone cladding. The big point here is that the facade is nearly 190 mm off the concrete block substrate. The following is how Jordan Smith in conjunction with myself ( John Redhead ) decided for him to use the 12mm StoneSub system to support his facade cladding. How to work out the weight of the panel they are going to use: 1. Always assume the stone specific weight/ cubic metre is 2.8 tonnes. 2. Multiply the length x the depth x the thickness = 1200mm long x 900mm deep x 50mm thickness = 1.2 x.9 x.050 x 2.8 =151.2kgs/ panel. 3. The panels in the photo above are 860mm l x 675mm w x 50mm thick and they weigh.86 x.675 x.050 x2.8 = 81.27 kgs/ panel. Work it out yourself on calculator. 4. The vertical channel in this case is 82mm deep and the shaft length is 75mm to the centre of the bed of the panel. This means that the cavity from the back of the panel of stone to the substrate (concrete block wall) is 130mm and the Stone Working Area is total cavity + width of panel = 82mm channel + 50mm cavity + 50mm stone thickness = 182mm.![]() 5. The gain with the StoneSub system is that it allows you to support at certified distances that relate to the fixing you are using ==a 12 mm shaft can only support safely 26 kgs @ 75mm full extension when you are using a 100 mm shaft length into a 50 mm thick panel. Therefor we could not of supported this panel size @ 157mm cavity (total SWA -25mm of the stone panel forward of the front disc), but we able to do so with the use of the StoneSub brackets on the 82mm deep channel. 6. In the application above if they used the 12mm adjustable $12.50/clip =$25/ panel=50mm cavity - if they use the 12mm StoneSub + 42mm channel= $25 +1.4 linear channel / panel of stone (2 pieces of channel/ panel) = 1.4x$7.5/ lin mtr = $25 + $10.50 channel = $35.50/ panel = 90mm cavity. If they use 12mm StoneSub + 62mm channel = $25 +1.4 lin mtr @ $13.00/ lin mtr = $43.20 /panel = 110mm If they use 12mm StoneSub + 82mm deep channel = $25 + 1.4 @ $18.00 = $50.20/ panel = 130mm cavity. So as you see for double the cost you can have nearly triple the cavity saving. ![]() Below are some of the comments from the Stone Mason (Jordan Smith mob: 0405 918 859 email: jordansmith53@hotmail.com) John: "All went well. The channels make a great system better - don't think I would like to go back to the drive pins! 83mm channel no drama and the 12mm claw bolts fitted. You were correct, little finicky but worked well in fact worked great!" Further thoughts are available from him himself, if you would like to contact him. |
