Davey's Rainbank® makes water conservation simple

The average persons idea of water conservation would probably involve installing a tank to collect rain water and then using this on the garden or to wash their car.

This is just the start!

The real contribution of rainwater to water conservation comes when it is put to the most beneficial of tasks like flushing domestic toilets, providing water for the laundry or similar uses where high grade reticulated drinking water is currently being wasted.

Leading Australian pump and household pressure system manufacturer, Davey Products is making a significant contribution to water conservation with its development and imminent commercial release of RainBank® a unique advanced control system for rainwater harvesting.

Simply explained RainBank® automatically switches the water source from the domestic mains to the rainwater supply stored in the tank whenever a toilet button is pushed or a similar use is required.

The RainBank® controller automatically decides to select rainwater first and then mains water only as a back up should there be no rainwater stored.

RainBank® is easy to install either as a complete system of pump and controller or as a controller added to an existing pressure pump and tank installation.

The RainBank® controller is normally mounted on top of the pump but its unique design also allows the flexibility of remote mounting onto a wall or nearby location.

The RainBank® system can be incorporated into the design of a new home or can equally be retrofitted to existing houses.

To aid peace of mind RainBank® complies with all Australian plumbing codes and all electrical components are approved and manufactured to the highest safety systems.

In addition RainBank® has been designed to ensure that there is no risk of backflow from the rain water storage into the mains system thereby preventing potential contamination of the water authority supply.

Announcing the release of RainBank® Davey's general manager-marketing Colin Nash said that studies of typical domestic water use show that flushing toilets and operating washing machines are the two principal uses of drinking quality mains water in the home

"In many household situations it will be possible to replace up to 40 percent of household potable water or drinking water usage with less valuable rainwater.

Mr Nash said that while an increasing number of households are installing rainwater tanks to conserve the run off from the roof of their home, most people only envisage using this water for relatively low grade applications like garden watering or washing the car.

"What they do not realise is that rainwater stored for this usage will only have a small effect on conservation once the dry weather kicks in.

"What is the point of RainWater tanks if they are empty?

"Another question I often ask is what is the purpose of systems which use mains water to fill up the rainwater tank when it is empty, just to re-pump the water out of them?

"This is a total waste of valuable energy.

"With the RainBank® system they can be saving water all year round, even in winter and when the tank is empty it switches back to mains automatically!" Colin said

"As the NSW and Victorian Governments announce increasing water restrictions they have also offered significant incentives to consumers who use water saving devices including a double incentive to have a rainwater tank plumbed to a toilet.

By using the Davey RainBank® , consumers can make a real contribution to water conservation, reduce their reliance on mains supplies and the ever diminishing reserves stored in our reservoirs and at the same time obtain a contribution from the government whilst doing so.

"Australia is facing a water crisis like we have never seen before.

Davey as a 70 year old Australian company is determined to play a leading role in facilitating better and more effective use of rainwater resources and our RainBank® is an important step towards bringing this to reality."
